If there are going to be any complaints to ClariS, it’s going to be about how they release awesome songs back to back. Their quality is so damn consistent I struggled to pick my top songs from them. Originally I’d plan on doing a top ten but this is where I ended up; a top thirty list. I’ll be a little more creative with putting images of the album/EP covers below the song titles.
Alrighty, let’s get this countdown going!
30. reunion
Used as an opening to Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai. (season 2).
Pretty much suffers in terms of how much I liked the song less than the previous opening.
29. Gravity
Used as the first ending theme for the anime Qualidea Code.
28. Grasp
This is probably one of many ‘ClariS signature’ songs that involve soft instruments. I’m sure there are more to come, down the list…
27. Hitotsu Dake (Only One)
There, I said it.
26. Wake Up
Used as an opening theme to the anime Moyashimon Returns!.
Wake me up when the list stops being all the songs from ‘Second Story’.
25. HANABI
Don’t wake me up yet…
24. rainy day
No seriously. Listen to this on a rainy day and you’ll feel better. Guaranteed.
23. Neo Moon
Okay we’ve made it out of Second Story just for a while. This song does have somewhat dark feeling to it, but isn’t that what we need once in a while?
22. Connect
Used as an opening to the anime Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magika (Puella Magi Madoka Magica).
I’m sure Madoka fans would totally expect this to be somewhere much higher in the ranks. For me though, putting it here seems mostly fitting.
21. Luminous
Used as an opening theme to the movie Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magika.
Would you look at that? A more deserving song from Madoka!
The video has a pitched version of the song.
20. Usotsuki (Liar)
It’s only the beginning and unlike this song, I am not lying. From here on you’ll meet more songs from their most recent album; Fairy Castle.
19. DROP
Part of the first indie single released by ClariS as Alice☆Clara. It was only available to purchase at Comiket.
I like the song, but I like this remix by Haru-P much better!
The echoes of this song is just cute. I know it’s weird to describe that way but I’m not lying!
So yeah. Listen to the remix instead, will ya?
18. Sayonara wa Iwanai
I haven’t quite forgot their older songs. Especially in this time when Alice is no longer with the unit, one would find serious nostalgia in her voice.
17. Koijishaku
Seriously. The more I listen to this album, the more I’m missing Alice!
16. with you
So Second Story still has some greats left over to take the higher spots in my heart.
15. irony
Used as an opening to Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai.
Here it is! The proud, original ClariS! The song that got them the starer fame! Need I say more about this song?
14. Hirahira Hirara
Now this is something ‘Japan’ like. I dig.
Here’s a random painting video with the music in it.
13. again
Used as the theme song for the role-playing game AKIBA’S BEAT.
This feels like a quick trip to hell.
12. Kono ‘I’ wa Kyosuu (This ‘I’ is Imaginary)
Right. This should be where the ClariS collection started getting tense as they’ve explored new dimensions of pop. You could tell right away that the melody and overall tone of this song isn’t a positive one like pop is known to be. If you’re a pianist there’s a good chance that you’ll absolutely love this song!
Link to the song is here. However, the page is in Afrikaans!
Who cares, just listen to it haha!
11. CLICK
Used as the first opening theme for the anime Nisekoi.
This is the one case where… you’re probably not a ClariS fan if you haven’t heard this song.
10. Prism
Used as a promotion song to the 40th anniversary of Sanrio mascots Kiki & Lala.
This song gave me mixed feelings between happiness and uncertainty, definitely not sadness.
9. clever
Used as the third ending theme for the anime Qualidea Code.
8. Hitorigoto
Used as the opening theme for the anime Eromanga-Sensei.
Oh boy! OreImo returns and so does ClariS! One for one! This song pretty much sums up the mood I was in when I watch the show.
7. Diary
This song sounds so posh and fancy at the same time.
6. YUMENOKI
Dreaming, dreaming, dreaming!
5. border
Used as an ending theme for the anime Tsukimonogatari.
ClariS now officially does rock! Woot!
No, honestly. I’m actually happy that they finally started doing something new to themselves.
4. Anemone
Used as an ending theme to the anime Classroom☆Crisis.
Official music video on Vevo.
Or just listen on here, right?
3. eternally
Absolutely heaven. I cried a little while listening to this while working….
While. Freaking. At. Work. And people asked me what the hell was wrong, haha!
2. pastel
I remembered hearing this song even before Anemone, back when I used to follow International Saimoe League. Right back to it!
1. Kokoro no Inryoku (Heart’s Attraction)
This. This is it! The song is pretty much sprinkled in both anime and Disney flavors, something befitting the duo (Clara who was an anime geek & Alice who was a Disney otaku at the time).
And when I say Disney, I’ll remind you of what it resembles…
I want you to alternate the playbacks between the last minute of Kokoro no Inryoku and this song 🙂
Honorable Mention: STEP
Used as the second opening theme to the anime Nisekoi.
Pretty much suffers the same fate as the song reunion.
It’s been a hell of a ride. I hope you enjoyed listening to any of these songs I managed to find. For the ones I couldn’t, I’d suggest buying CD’s or EP’s since I’ve said this before; the pictures below each song title is the cover for the Albums/EP’s.
Irony and Click have a special place in my heart, since they were the first two ClariS songs I had ever heard. I, unfortunately, haven’t heard any of the new songs that have come out ever since Karen replaced Alice, so I am definitely curious to see how they sound together. Awesome post! It’ll definitely help me add some ClariS (or ClareN now?) into my J-pop playlists 😀

To be honest, Karen sounds a lot closer to Clara than Alice does so while the second generation is definitely syncing in tone, they lost some variety without Alice.
At the very end of the day, it’s Clara’s vocals that actually have me immediately recognize that it is indeed… ClariS!
She could practically pursue a solo career but I can see many ups in having a company to an epic journey~

Ahh I understand. That makes a lot of sense when you put it that way.
I can definitely see a solo career sometime in the future, but maybe not yet. It is good to know that it is still ClariS though! Thanks for your thoughts on this, I really appreciate it!

ClariS is one of the few artists whose albums are consistently great. It seems you’ve heard their latest two albums. Please give their previous albums a try too because Birthday and Party Time are simply amazing! I particularly like their original songs, graduation (Birthday) and Orange (Party Time). Graduation was made to commemorate their graduation (obviously) from junior high school. Orange is a feels trip, it’s a song about Alice leaving the duo.

I am indulging their Birthday album right now and it looks like some songs from Fairy Castle will be replaced by some others from the former!
