Omiai Aite wa Oshieee– Oops, I dropped it!

Cuteness Bait…

Based on a manga that probably never made it out of Japan, surfaced a type of anime adaptation that I could swear I’ve never encountered before.

That was until now.

Let’s get to the extremely short story babble first before I take you for one hell of a ride. Sadly, MAL’s synopsis is literally the story for this show.

Nano is a popular teacher who is admired by students. Only Souji, a male student, gives her trouble. One day, someone she knows introduced her for an arranged marriage. Nano is worried at first, but later becomes frank with the man who she meets and is in a good mood. Later, she realized that he is Souji who disguised as someone else! Even though she rejects the arranged marriage, Souji still comes to pursuit her.

Ignoring the parts where Souji gets her drunk in a bar and starts forcing himself onto her. Nano goes fluster mode like any other virgins in anime and gets wet.

Right. Let me think of a way to describe my moments of denial. I think this is the right time for me to talk about it–this show is giving me a perfect opportunity to do just so!

Only recently I have admitted into not being very fond of hentai despite being able to take in a huge amount of ecchi, therefore under normal circumstances, there should not be any issues with me watching this show. I certainly never mind a five minute show; there are many great shows of around 3 minutes at most out and about.

The first problem for Omiai Aite wa Oshiego, Tsuyokina, Mondaiji, and absolutely the biggest one for me, is how it chops itself to meet requirements. I was swore an ecchi show by MAL and they are technically not wrong. So I went in knowing that it should be something I can handle without having to pull some weird face to my screen. You know how most shows with ‘ecchi’ tag on them would cover up and offer full on, glorious titties in their uncensored versions?

The most ecchi you can get in the TV version.

So I soldiered on and watched the uncensored version while looking at the comment section, hoping to see some glorious boob jokes (it’s an uncensored version thing).

Omiai probably is produced and animated on a single take with as much lewd stuff jammed into a tiny space of time so that it can be snipped off for TV airing.

For anyone who has never read the original source material which is the manga, would never know that Omiai is a hentai! The show is originally around five minutes long, but around one minute of the hentai part is removed so that it can comply with Japanese television standards.

That’s it. Removed. No efforts of alteration whatsoever!

Can't show this on TV!
Uwaaah! Can’t show this on TV!

So by removing the LEWD AF (Not Safe For Work, I tell you!) part, the show automatically turns from hentai to ecchi. That’s innovation I say. Holy mother of God, who would have thought!

Even eroge like Fate/Stay Night and Grisaia no Kajitsu get the hentai parts removed for anime adaptation but never has an ‘uncensored version’ popped up for any of them. They are not being wishy-washy; they have decided to make the anime version for anime fans, not hentai fans.

Omiai on the other hand is new to me; the adaptation is purely made for hentai fans while at the same time exerting literally next to no effort, attempting to lure in some anime fans.

I honestly abhor half-assery when it comes to art. Anime is art in many forms put together. I cannot imagine anyone buying the censored version at all…

The second issue, and a very minor one at that, is the character that is Souji. The only thing he used to hide his identity was a pair of glasses.

What is this, Clark Kent in Superman?

Unlike some real hentai fans among the web whom got absolutely triggered, I am more than willing to forgive the show since it is very obvious that sex sells. The show just wants us in for the moans and groans, the wets and sweats, etc.

What I do like about the show based off the three minutes of experience that I have, is some parts of Nano’s voice acting. I swear she sounds like Saori Hayami when she’s flustered.
Good grief, I don’t even think Hayamin would dare to work for a hentai!

I absolutely enjoyed the ending song.
Or is it an opening?
Well well, never have I thought that I’d be buying music from a hentai show…

I will not be returning to this show unless it can spawn memes, and I hope it will. I do not hate hentai; I would rather just watch real porn.

So with that in mind, for the hentai fans out there: Do not hesitate and grab yourself the uncensored version today! Eventually international fans will start to notice and actually do fan translation on the manga.

It’s a win-win for you, basically.

  1. Well, hentai or not, a show is a show. Normally even if a show has ecchi/hentai parts my brain automatically filter them out so its not that big a deal, but in the case of stuff like this I promptly drop, like you did.
As for anime like these getting good music, you would be surprised. Sometimes the best music come from the worst anime, such as the opening & ending songs by Mia REGINA for 7 mortal sins, or the opening song for Youkai Apartment(that everyone dropped except for me :/), even Tokyo Ghoul the shitty adaptation anime gave birth to arguably the single most popular anime song: Unravel.
